In Gujarat, a Rail Over Rail (ROR) flyover will be constructed on the Kosamba–Umarpada section (9.20 km) at a cost of ₹344.38 crore.

Indian Railways has approved two key infrastructure projects in Gujarat and Bihar with a total investment of ₹647.58 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity, reducing congestion, and improving operational efficiency.
Rail Over Rail Flyover in Gujarat
In Gujarat, a Rail Over Rail (ROR) flyover will be constructed on the Kosamba–Umarpada section (9.20 km) at a cost of ₹344.38 crore.
- The project falls under Western Railway
- Located on the Mumbai–Vadodara main line
- Will eliminate surface-level crossings
The Railways stated that due to the presence of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), direct connectivity to the main line is currently not feasible. The new flyover will enable safer and smoother train operations by avoiding track crossings.
New Rail Bypass in Bhagalpur, Bihar
In Bihar, a 13.38 km rail bypass will be constructed in Bhagalpur at a cost of ₹303.20 crore.
- Connects Gonudham Halt (Barahat–Bhagalpur section) to Sabour (Bhagalpur–Sahibganj section)
- Falls under Eastern Railway
The project aims to ease congestion at Bhagalpur Junction, where train operations currently exceed 125% of capacity.
Faster and More Efficient Train Movement
At present, trains at Bhagalpur often require engine reversal, leading to delays and operational inefficiencies.
The new bypass will:
- Eliminate the need for engine reversal
- Improve punctuality
- Enable faster train movement
Part of Larger Capacity Expansion Plan
The Railways said these projects are part of a broader strategy to:
- Increase network capacity
- Reduce congestion
- Improve safety and efficiency
- Meet growing passenger and freight demand
