Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat Railway Line to be Doubled at a Cost of ₹3,169 Crore

Date:

India approves ₹3,169 crore project to double the 177 km Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat railway line, enhancing efficiency and connectivity across Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the doubling of the Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat single railway line section (177 km) spread across Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The project will be implemented at an estimated cost of ₹3,169 crore, according to an official statement by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

The proposed line doubling is aimed at enhancing mobility, efficiency, and service reliability for Indian Railways. The increased line capacity will help reduce congestion, improve train operations, and facilitate smoother passenger and freight movement across this busy route.

This strategic rail development is expected to not only boost regional connectivity but also support the movement of essential commodities and industries in the eastern corridor. By easing operational challenges and providing better service, the project aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and promote economic growth in eastern India.
