Indian Railways has approved the implementation of ‘Kavach Version 4.0’ across 607.7 route kilometers in the Lucknow Division of the North Eastern Railway.
This project, with an estimated cost of ₹252 crore, will cover the remaining identified sections of the division under the Railways’ ongoing safety upgrades.
The expansion of Kavach 4.0 will strengthen train safety systems and further enhance safety and operational reliability on the routes where it is implemented.
Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system aimed at improving railway safety and supporting safer train operations. The system helps prevent Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) and can automatically apply brakes when necessary. It also monitors train movements to reduce the risk of operational errors.
This move is part of Indian Railways’ comprehensive efforts to expand ‘Kavach’ coverage across the entire network and upgrade train safety systems, thereby making train operations safer and more reliable.
