Delhi–Kashmir Freight Train Service to Begin from April 17, Boosting Trade and Connectivity

Date:

The train will consist of parcel vans designed for cargo movement, ensuring efficient logistics handling

New Delhi/Srinagar, April 2026: In a major boost to logistics and trade, Northern Railway will launch a dedicated freight (parcel) train service between Delhi and Kashmir from April 17, aimed at improving transportation of goods between the regions.

Direct Rail Link Between Delhi and Kashmir

The new service, officially called the Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS), will run between Adarsh Nagar in New Delhi and Budgam in central Kashmir.

This marks a significant step in strengthening supply chains and reducing dependence on road transport.

Faster Delivery for Perishable Goods

Officials said the train will complete the journey in about 23–24 hours, ensuring quicker delivery compared to road transport.

This will particularly benefit:

  • Fruit growers (apples, cherries)
  • Handicraft traders
  • Saffron, walnut, and pashmina exporters

By reducing transit time, the service will help maintain the freshness and quality of perishable products.

Trial Run Till May End

The freight train service will initially operate on a trial basis from April 17 to May 31.

If the response from traders and businesses is positive, the service is likely to be made permanent.

Key Stops and Schedule

  • The train will halt at Bari Brahmana and Ambala Cantonment for loading and unloading operations.
  • One route will depart from Budgam in the morning and reach Delhi the next day, with a similar return schedule.

The train will consist of parcel vans designed for cargo movement, ensuring efficient logistics handling.

Boost to Kashmir’s Economy

Railway officials said the initiative is aimed at:

  • Supporting farmers and small traders
  • Providing a reliable and cost-effective transport option
  • Expanding market access for Kashmir’s products across India

Strengthening National Connectivity

The launch reflects Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance cargo connectivity and economic integration, especially for regions like Jammu & Kashmir.
