Currently, the demand for ‘Rail Neer’—the Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) supplied within Indian Railways is being met by existing Rail Neer plants across the country. Based on Indian Railways’ projected demand and operational requirements, the responsibility of setting up new Rail Neer plants at designated locations has been entrusted to the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
The estimated cost of setting up a Rail Neer plant (under the PPP model) with a capacity of 1,00,000 bottles per day is approximately ₹10 crore. This cost includes the construction of a pre-engineered building (PEB) shed and the installation of plant and machinery, but excludes the cost of land.
