Indian Railways has approved the construction of a four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Alkapuri in the Vadodara Division of Western Railway at an estimated cost of ₹166.5 crore. This project will be executed on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis with the Government of Gujarat, with both parties contributing approximately ₹83.28 crore.
New ROB to Ease Traffic, Improve Connectivity to Key Transport Hubs
The proposed Road Over Bridge (ROB) aims to improve road connectivity between the Alkapuri and Kalaghoda areas and address the shortcomings of the existing Alkapuri Road Under Bridge (RUB) near the Vadodara railway station. The current underpass has a vertical clearance of approximately three meters, which hinders the movement of large vehicles and frequently leads to waterlogging during the monsoon season.
The new four-lane, grade-separated facility is expected to improve traffic flow and provide a better crossing without disrupting railway operations. It will also enhance accessibility to the Vadodara railway station, the GSRTC bus station, and the upcoming high-speed rail station.
With peak-hour traffic exceeding 1,600 PCU per hour, the existing Alkapuri RUB has become inadequate amid traffic conflicts and limited pedestrian facilities. The proposed four-lane grade-separated facility will ease traffic movement, improve connectivity to Vadodara Railway Station and provide a more efficient crossing arrangement.
